What is Families First of North Carolina?

Families First is an organization that provides services for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities (IDD) Our Direct Care Workers, work with individuals in home and out in the community. We teach social skills, coping skills, independent living skills, safety skills and daily living skills. Our staff assists individuals served with community access and integration. Services provided by our agency are: Community Living and Supports (CLS), Community Networking (CN), Supported Employment (SE), Supported Living (SL), Residential Supports/Alternate Family Living (AFL), Personal Assistance, and Respite.

Our Services

Community Living and Supports: We provide support, supervision and assistance with all Daily Living Skills. This includes bathing, eating, dressing, chores, hygiene, etc. The goal of this service is to teach skills in a variety of areas so they may obtain as much independence as possible.

Community Networking: We provide individualized day activities that support the individual’s definition of a meaningful day in an integrated community setting, with persons who are not disabled.

Supported Living: We provide support to people who rent or own their own homes. These supports are individualized for each person receiving the service.

Supported Employment: We provide assistance with choosing, acquiring and maintaining a job for individuals with IDD who are of working age. We provide short-term helps, with applying for and looking for work and we provide long-term help via job coaching and support.

Residential Supports: We provide individualized services and support to enable a person to live successfully in an Alternate Family Living (AFL) setting of their choice and be an active participant in their community. Support includes supervision and assistance in daily living skills and monitoring for health and safety.

Personal Assistance: We provide support and assistance wherever the person with IDD needs it. So they may engage in activities and interactions in which they would otherwise be limited or excluded from because of there Developmental Disability.

Respite: We provide a break for parents/guardians from the ongoing care or their IDD loved one.
